Are you looking after your scoliosis brace or kyphosis brace properly?
Whether you are wearing your brace part-time, or nearly all day, it is important to keep your brace as clean as possible to avoid discomfort, and to prevent it from developing an unwanted odour!
You can keep your ScoliBrace clean by wiping the inside of the brace regularly with isopropyl alcohol wipes. Make sure you don’t use alcohol wipes on the outside of your brace, as this can cause the pattern on your brace to fade. It is better to clean the outside of your brace with a clean, damp cloth instead.
We recommend that you wear a clean, soft shirt or clean body sock under the brace, and make sure that you are showering daily as this will significantly reduce skin irritation and help prevent the brace taking on unwanted odours.
It is also important that you do not wear your brace during sports, and do not undertake extreme activities while wearing the brace. And of course, never swim in your brace!
Straps:
Velcro can stick to anything, from dog hair to fuzz from your clothing, and if too much debris gets caught in your straps they can stop working efficiently. The best way to keep your straps clean and to help them to last longer is to keep your straps fastened when not in use.
If you do get dirt or other debris stuck in your velcro straps you can blot the looped side of the fastener with duct tape, and clean the hooked side of Velcro fasteners using another piece of Velcro.
